Post-Op Care for Dental Crowns

After your initial visit for a crown, you will go home with a temporary restoration. This restoration can function as a tooth, but there are some precautions you will want to take. You should not floss around the temporary, this can cause the temporary to be lost. You also should avoid chewing on hard food like nuts as this can cause the temporary to crack. If a temporary is lost you should call the office to have it replaced.

On the second visit the final crown will be cemented onto the tooth. This cement typically takes 30 minutes to fully set and after the initial setting period you can return to normal function with the tooth. You may still want to be careful with very hard or sticky foods, as this can sometimes break the bond with the tooth, resulting in the crown needing to be recemented.

Call our office at (610) 929-4252 with any questions.
